Botanical name: Carduus edelbergii    Family: Asteraceae (Sunflower family)
Synonyms: Carduus nutans var. lucidus

West-Himalayan Cotton Thistle is a tall stout thistle 1-2 ft tall, grooved, with wavy wigs. It has thorny lobed leaves 0.5-1 ft long. Flower-heads are born singly, 2-4 cm across, pink. Seed-pods are pale brown. West-Himalayan Cotton Thistle is found in the Himalayas, from Afghanistan to Kashmir, Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh at altitudes of 2000-4500 m.
