Turkistan Geranium is a perennial herb 5-20 cm tall,
with the aerial stem much reduced or absent. It is closely similar to
Himalayan Geranium. Petals are
1.4-1.6 cm long, obovate-wedge-shaped. bluish-violet, base dense
fringed with hairs. Sepals are 6-10 mm long, ovate to
ovate-lanceshaped, glandular, with a short sharply pointed tip, margin
white, which is an identifying feature.
Rhizome is well developed, branched. Leaves are basal, 5-7 angled,
round to kidney-shaped 9-14 x 15-24 mm, velvet-hairy, segments
obovate-wedge-shaped. Bracts are similar to stipules, but smaller, up
to 3 mm long, and narrower. Turkistan Geranium is found at altitudes of
2000-3600 m, from E & NE Afghanistan, Upper Chitral to W Himalaya and
Turkistan. Flowering: June-July.
