Utricularia janarthanamii - Tiny Blue Bladderwort

Tiny Blue Bladderwort is an annual herb with stem green, herbaceous, 6 cm high. Flowers are blue to pink; upper lip 3.2 x 1.1 mm, linear-oblong, crested at centre, rounded or notched at tip; lower lip 3-3.2 x 3.8-4.2 mm, obovate, hairy in throat, bigibbous at base, rounded at tip; spur 2-5 mm long; conical, descending, pointed or 2-3 toothed at tip. Stamens are 2, filaments strap-shaped, slightly curved. Pistil is 0.9-1.1 mm long, dorsally compressed; style short, distinct, flat; stigma 2-lipped, flat at tip. Flower-stalks are 4-8 mm long. Sepals are unequal; upper one 2 x 1.2 mm, ovate, pointed or minutely toothed at tip; lower one 2 x 1.3 mm, ovate-elliptic, blunt or minutely toothed at tip. Flowers are borne in racemes on flower-cluster-stalk and solitary on leaves and runners, carried on flower-cluster-stalks 10 cm long, angular, grooved on one side, hairless. Leaves are 0.5-2 x 1-5 mm wide, spoon-shaped, rounded at tip, scattered along runners, 3-nerved, nerves branched. Traps on leaves are large and elsewhere small, nearly spherical; stalk upto 1 mm long. Capsules 1.8× 1.3 mm, obliquely ovoid, wall uniformly membranous. Seeds are numerous, nearly spherical, 0.5 mm across. It grows on wet rocks and sloppy wet grasslands at 100-800 m altitude. Flowering: August-November.
