Native to Assam, Tezpur Chilli is the plant that produces one of the hottest
chillies on earth. Molecular analysis has revealed that it is a naturally
occuring hybrid between Capsicum chinense and Capsicum frutescens.
Flowers do not look very different from the normal chilli flowers. However,
the plant can grow tall, like a shrub. Tezpur Chilli is an old favourite in
the North-East. Known in Manipuri as Oomorok (tree pepper), it is a much
loved chilli in Manipur.
