Nilgiri Tarenna is a shrub with young branches
velvet-hairy, leaves obovate-lanceshaped with a tapering tip, 10-22 x
3.7-6 cm, velvet-hairy beneath, nerves 12-15 pair, leaf-stalk 1.2 cm,
stout. Stipules are shortly triangular. Flowers are borne in small
stalkless few-flowered cymes which are velvet-hairy. Flowers are 4-5 cm
long, shortly stalked, white, similar to Ixora flowers, but with 5
petals. Flower tube is narrow, much longer than the petals, stvle
hairless, stigma very slender. Sepal-cup is obconic, teeth short broad.
Nilgiri Tarenna is native to Southern Western Ghats, Karnataka and
Kerala.
