Nagalim Dog Teak is a newly (2026) described species,
a shrub about 3-4 ft tall, occurring in open tropical deciduous
forests. The species name nagalim means land of Naga tribes.
Flowers arise singly or 2-3 together, 6-8 cm across, carried on stalks
2-3 cm (up to 4.5 cm in fruit). Petals are 5, yellow, 3.5-4.5 x 2-3.5
cm, wavy, tip rounded. Stamens are about 270 in 4-5 rows. Sepals are 5,
2.5-3.6 x 2-2.5 cm, ovate to elliptic, overlapping, persistent. Carpels
are 7-8; ovary 4-6 mm. Stems are branched, sympodial, densely hairy
when young, becoming hairless with age; leaf scars clasp about half or
more of the branch. Leaf-stalks are 1.2-2.5 cm long, 2-4 mm broad, with
brown fibrous hairs; leaf blades inverted-lanceshaped to
lanceshaped-elliptic, 12.5-23.5 x 4.5-7.5 cm, doubly sawtoothed, tip
tapering, base wedge-shaped or decurrent; surfaces velvety, with 32-43
lateral nerves. Fruits are globular, 3 x 2 cm, seeds 2-6, 4 × 3 mm, in
pungent jelly. Nagalim Dog Teak is known only from Kamjong distt. of
Manipur, as of now. Flowering: May-June.
