Elegant Rush is a slender, loosely clustered perennial with a short, tuberous root-stock. Stem is 15-20 cm tall, with stem leaves usually exceeding it. Leaves linear, 1-1.5 mm broad, flat, pointed, narrowly sheathing at base. Flowers are borne in 2 to few, stalked cyme-like heads, each consisting of 3-10 flowers usually. Flowers are about 3 mm long, pale whitish nearly stalkless; tepals almost equal, membranous-glumaceous, outer lanceshaped-convex, inner ovate-lanceshaped, flat, blunt, 3-veined. Stamens are 6, much protruding; filaments much longer than anthers, exceeding the flower. Capsules are broadly ovate, about 2.5 mm long with beak up to 1 mm long, greyish. Elegant Rush is found in Himalaya to S. Central China, at altitudes of 2100-5200 m. Flowering: July-September.
