Dark Bulb-Leaf Orchid is a miniature sized,
tree-dwelling orchid with close set, spherical pseudobulbs that are
smooth when young and become rough with age. They carry 2 apical,
linear to elliptic leaves, tapering at both ends. The plant blooms in
the winter through summer on an erect then arching, 2-4 cm long, many
flowered inflorescence, with pointed floral bracts carrying fragrant
flowers. Flowering stem arise from base of leafless pseudobulb, 2-4 cm;
raceme sometimes nodding, 1-1.5 cm, densely many flowered;
flower-cluster-stalk about 1 mm in diameter. Flowers are purplish red,
marked with purple spots, about 6 mm. Flower-stalk and ovary about 2
mm. Dark Bulb-Leaf Orchid is found in the Himalayas, from Uttarakhand
to China (S. Yunnan), at altitudes of 800-1800 m.
