Mycetia assamica - Assam Mycetia

Assam Mycetia is a woody subshrub to shrub, 50-120 cm tall, much branched. It is a recently (2026) discovered species. Young stems are green and velvet-hairy, becoming white and hairless with age. Flowers are borne at branch-ends or in leaf axils, in 7.5-13.5 cm long, many-flowered cymes, with 9-12 lateral branches, carried on a flower-cluster-stalk 1.5-3 cm. Bracts are linear-lance-shaped, 5-10 x 1-2 mm; bracteoles 1.0-1.5 x about 0.5 mm. Flowers are 0.9-1.2 cm long; stalks 2-3 x about 0.5-0.8 mm. Sepal cup is 5-lobed; sepals 2-2.5 x 1-1.5 mm. Flower-tube is 3-5 x 1-2 mm, swollen near the base; petals 1-2 x 1-2 mm. Stamens are stalkless, anthers 5, 0.5-1 mm, hairy, style 0.5-1.5 mm. Stipules are ovate to inverted-lanceshaped or lanceshaped, 5-14 x 3-5 mm, 1-4-lobed, hairless above and velvet-hairy below. Leaves are slightly unequal; stalk 1.5-3.0 x 0.1-0.3 cm; blade ovate to inverted-lance-shaped or slightly elliptic, 10-33 x 6-14 cm, base narrowed to slightly wedge-shaped, apex pointed to narrowed, margins entire to slightly wavy, finely velvet-hairy on both surfaces, with 12-17 pairs of lateral veins. Assam Mycetia is known only from Kamrup district, Assam. Flowering: May-June.
