Western Ghats Muraina Grass is an annual grass with stems
sharply rising up, or prostrate, 30-50 cm long. Ligule is an efringed
with hairs membrane; 4 mm long; hairy on lower surface. Leaf-blade base
with a false leaf-stalk; leaf-stalk 1-5 cm long. Leaf-blades 3-7 cm
long; 7-14 mm wide. Leaf-blade surface hairy; hairy on both sides; with
tubercle-based hairs. Leaf-blade margins scabrous. Inflorescence is
composed of racemes. Racemes 2; paired; 2-3 cm long. Rachis fragile at
the nodes; semiround; fringed with hairs on margins. Rachis internodes
are club-shaped; 3.5 mm long. Rachis internode tip transverse;
cupuliform. Spikelets in pairs. Fertile spikelets are stalkless; 1 in
the cluster. Companion sterile spikelets are stalked; 1 in the cluster.
Flower-stalks oblong; 0.5 mm long; 0.1 length of fertile spikelet;
fringed with hairs. Western Ghats Muraina Grass is native to SW India and
Sri Lanka.
