Tiny Hemipilia is a terrestrial orchid, up to 10 cm long with oblong, bilobed tuber; stem with one or two blunt tubular sheaths at the base. Leaf is one, linear-lanceshaped, pointed or tapering, grooved. Flowers are borne singly, white or purple with darker stripes. Bracts are lanceshaped, tapering, equalling the ovary; sepals spreading. Petals are ovoid; lip shallowly 3-lobed with broad flat tip and rounded toothed margin; spur cylindrical as long as the ovary, somewhat compressed. Tiny Hemipilia is a rare ground orchid that prefers to grow in grassy slopes and meadows at altitudes of 2000-3600 m. Flowering: July-August.
