Teddy Bear Sunflower
ntroduced Photo: Thingnam Girija
Common name: Teddy Bear Sunflower
Botanical name: Helianthus annuus 'Teddy Bear'    Family: Asteraceae (Sunflower family)

Recent years have seen a lot of development breeding of Sunflowers in an effort to make them small enough for the average garden and to make them produce more than the one or two very large flowers usually produced by the species. Teddy Bear Sunflower is a seed strain that produces small plants with branching stems that carry extraordinary flowers. Each fully double yellow flower has the cuddliness of a teddy bear. They are large - 15 cm across - flowers that are almost too big for the size of the plant giving the whole scheme a rather top heavy look. Sunflowers generally produce a large amount of nectar attracting bees yielding an excellent honey. They are a cheerful addition to herbaceous or mixed borders and can also be grown in containers.
