Botanical name: Cyperus eragrostis Family: Cyperaceae (Sedge family)
Umbrella Sedge is a green sedge with tall, erect stems, and long, thin, pointed leaves. Its flowers are found within tough, rounded, greenish-yellow or beige spikelets. This is thought of as a damp loving plant (it was first known around the Reservoir) but can also be found at the bottom of walls in what appears to be a hot, dry situation. This species is native to American continent, but havs become naturalized in Europe, Tropical Asia and Australia. It can become a weed where it is introduced; it has been known to infest rice fields. In India is it seen in the North-East.
