Botanical name: Ligularia amplexicaulis    Family: Asteraceae (Sunflower family)

Stem Clasping Ligularia is a perennial herb that grows to 1.0 m high by 0.5 m wide. The upper leaves are large and green, rounded-heart-shaped stalked, the upper ones appear to clasp the stem. Flowers are carried on erect stems above the foilage. The flowers are large, shaggy, narrow-petalled yellow daisies which appear in loose, flat-topped sprays in mid-summer. Flower-heads are about 4 cm across; ray-florets about 2 cm; involucral bracts about 8 mm, oblong pointed, fused below, hairless. Stem Clasping Ligularia is found in the Himalayas, from Kashmir to Bhutan, at altitudes of 3000-4300 m.
Medicinal uses: The stems, leaves and flowers are used in Tibetan medicine, they are said to have an astringent taste and a cooling potency. Digestive and emetic, they are used in the treatment of vomiting from indigestion.
