Stalkless Persian Violet is a small erect herb, growing up
to 5-10 cm tall. Flowers are bluish purple, 6-10 mm across, with 4 broadly
ovate-lanceshaped petals, purple at the base. Anthers are yellow. Sepals are
4, not winged. This feature clearly distinguishes it from
Little Persian Violet which
has winged calyx. Flowers arise in clusters at the end of branches. Stalk
of the flower cluster is 1-5 cm long.
Slender stems are square in cross-section, branched at the top. Oppositely
arranged stalkless leaves are ovate, thick, 3-nerved, 6-8 mm long.
Capsules are 3 mm, round. Stalkless Persian Violet is
native to Western Ghats. Flowering: September-November.
