Small Marsh Millet is an aquatic or marshy annual
grass with stems 10-25 cm high, erect or prostrate, nodes bearded.
Leaves are 2-5 x 0.2-0.5 cm, ovate-lanceshaped, hairless, rounded at
base; sheath keeled, hairless, ligule a row of hairs. Flower panicles
are 2-7 cm long, contracted, cylindrical, hairless. Spikelets are
similar, 2 x 1 mm, ovate, hairless. Glumes are similar, ovate-round,
3-nerved; florets 2; lower bisexual, upper barren or with a rudimentary
ovary; first lemma 2 x 1 mm, ovate, pointed, hyaline; palea 2 x 1 mm
elliptic. Stamens 3, free. Small Marsh Millet is native to India, East
Himalaya, Madagascar, Nepal, Sri Lanka & SE Asia.
