Slender Tall Reedgrass is a perennial grass with stems
40-110 cm high, erect; nodes hairless. Leaves are 5-27 x 0.5-1.5 cm,
linear-lanceshaped or linear, base rounded or shallowly heart-shaped,
tip tapering, tuberculate-hairy; sheaths up to 12 cm long,
tubercle-based hairy; ligules ovate, thin, membranous. Flowers are
borne in lax panicles 10-27 cm long; branches up to 8 cm long.
Spikelets are 3-4 mm long, elliptic-lanceshaped. Lower glume 1.5-3 x
1-1.5 mm, ovate-pointed, 3-nerved, nerves scaberulous. Upper glume 2-3
x 1-1.5 mm, ovate-lanceshaped, 5-nerved. Lower floret male. Upper
floret bisexual. First lemma 2-2.5 x 1-1.5 mm, ovate-oblong, 5-nerved.
Palea 1.5-2 x 0.5-1 mm, oblong-elliptic, hyaline. Stamens 3. Second
lemma 1-1.5 x 0.5-1 mm, oblong-elliptic, muricate. Palea about 1 x 0.5
mm, oblong-lanceshaped, delicate with wart-like out growths. Stamens
are 3; anthers pink. Stigmas 1-1.5 mm long, violet. Slender Tall
Reedgrass is native to Peninsular India and Sri Lanka. Flowering: All
year.
