Botanical name: Hedyotis fruticosa    Family: Rubiaceae (Coffee family)
Synonyms: Oldenlandia fruticosa, Hedyotis corymbosa (illeg.)

Shrubby Hedyotis is a much-branched, erect shrub growing 1.2-1.8 m tall. Leaves are ovate-labceshaped, elliptic-lanceshaped or lanceshaped, 6-12 x 1-3 cm, drying yellow-green to brown. Nerves are 6-12 pairs. Leaf-stalks are up to 1 cm long. Flowers are borne at branch-ends, in trichotomously brached cymes. Flowers are heterostylous. Flowers are funnel-shaped, tube 2-3 mm long, throat densely hairy inside. Sepal cup is bell-shaped. Sepals are triangular, recurved, shorter than the ovoid smooth capsule. Capsules are spherical, 2-3 x 1.5-2. mm. Seeds 3-6, dark brown. Shrubby Hedyotis is found in South India, Sri Lanka and Myanmar. Flowering: April-August.
Medicinal uses: A decoction of the leaves is used to treat inflamed eyes.
