Botanical name:Vicoa sahyadricaFamily:Asteraceae (Sunflower family) Synonyms: Vicoa cernua sensu Hooker
Sahyadri Rayless Daisy is an annual, erect herb,
15-100 cm high. It is similar to
Vicoa cernua in its erect habit,
distally eared,
elliptic to lanceshaped leaves, but differs in having cup-like to
tubular, 4-5 x 4 mm
flower-heads, 6-12 bristles, and virtually non-existent rays, 1-2 mm
long. On the other
hand, Large Golden Daisy produces flat, 4-5 x 8-10 mm heads, 1-2
bristles, and
distinct 0.8-1 cm long ray florets. Leaves are ovate to
elliptic-oblong, lanceshaped
0.5-6 x 0.5-2.5 cm, grey green above. Sahyadri Rayless Daisy is
apparently
endemic to Maharashtra and Karnataka. Flowering: October-December.
