Purple-Flower Figwort is a perennial herb with slender obscurely angled stems. It was named after Walter Norman Koelz. Leaves are up to 9 cm long, pinnately cut towards base. Flowers are borne in few-flowered cymes forming narrow panicles. Sepals are rounded with rough margin. Flowers are 5-7 mm long, antherior petals greenish-yellow, posterior much larger and purple-brown as also posterior side of tube. Anthers do not protrude out, anterior slightly protruded; style 2-4 mm long. Capsule is 5-6 mm long, slightly beaked. Purple-Flower Figwort is found in Western Himalayas, from Afghanistan to Kashmir, at altitudes of 2600-5100 m. Flowering: July-September.
