Persian Rose is a species of rose which is unique in
having simple, not compound, leaves. The other unique feature, not seen
in any other rose species, is that the petals have pinkish red blotch
at the base, which creates an eye at the centre of its bright flowers.
Flowers are mostly yellow, but can also be pinkish. Flowers are about
2.5 cm across. The plant is a thin, straggling bush, 2-3 ft high, with
slender, wiry, downy stems furnished with hooked spines and slender
prickles, spreading by means of underground suckers. Leaves are
glaucous, simple (consisting of one leaflet), stalkless, obovate or
oval, 1.2-3 cm long, toothed towards the tip, covered with fine hairs.
Persian Rose is native to Iran to Central Asia and W. Afghanistan.
