Persian Desert Candle is a perennial hern 30-70 cm
tall. Leaves are Aloe-like, lanceshaped, generally up to 1 cm broad,
rarely as far as 2.5 cm broad, finely velvet-hairy. Flowering stem is
finely velvet-hairy, in the upper portion sometimes becoming hairless.
Bracts are up to 2.2 cm long, narrowly ovate-lanceshaped, sometimes
with a tail, whitish. Flower-stalks are up to 3 cm long, spreading
outside. Flower-tube is distinct, tepals spreading, reflexed, 1.2-1.6
cm long, white to pale pink, base yellow. Capsule up to 2.2 cm in
diameter, spherical. Seed 8-10 mm long, broadly winged. Young leaves
eaten as vegetables; also used as greens. Flowering: April-May.
