Painted Feather is known for its impressive, elongated leaves and multi-flowered inflorescence.The leaves can be of various colors, from silvery blue to deep green, and may have variegated patterns of stripes and spots. It stands out for its striking spike of red flowers that resemble a feather, which has been dipped in red paint. Some flowers feature striking, striped bands of color in shades of pink, orange and red. When in flower, Painted Feather produces a tall, upright stalk of flowers that rise above the foliage. Painted Feather is native to Brazil, cultivated worldwide.
