Nilgiri Kleinia is a fleshy subshrubs, to 1.5 m high,
with stem hairless. Leaves are up to 13 x 4 cm, alternate, elliptic,
tapering at either ends, rounded toothed-sawtoothed, hairless;
leaf-stalk 4 cm long. Flower-heads are 1.4 x 0.8 cm, borne in
branch-end corymb-like panicles. Involucral bracts are 1 cm long, in
one series, oblong, hairless; receptacle paleate. Florets are all
bisexual, tubular; florets 8 mm long, 5-lobed, white or pale yellow;
anthers entire at base. Seedpods are 5 mm long, oblong, 10-ribbed;
hairy between ribs; pappus many, cottony, white, bristly. Nilgiri
Kleinia is found in the grasslands of South India, NE India, Sri Lanka
and Indonesia. Flowering: September-April.
