Botanical name: Ctenanthe setosa    Family: Marantaceae (Arrowroot family)
Synonyms: Maranta setosa, Maranta secunda, Phrynium thyrsiflorum

Never-Never Plant is an evergreen perennial herb 1-3 ft tall, and noticeably bristly. Its striped dark green and silver striped leaves are purple on their undersides, elliptic with entire margins, up to 45 cm long and 10 cm across. Its leaf-stalks are hairy. Its white flowers are borne in short, comb-like spikes. In fact the genus name Ctenanthe is derived from the Greek ktenos meaning 'comb' and anthus menaing 'flower'. Its roots have rhizomes which aids its slow spread. Never-Never Plant is native to Brazil, widely cultivated as a house plant.
