Never-Never Plant is an evergreen perennial herb 1-3
ft tall, and noticeably bristly. Its striped dark green and silver
striped leaves are purple on their undersides, elliptic with entire
margins, up to 45 cm long and 10 cm across. Its leaf-stalks are hairy.
Its white flowers are borne in short, comb-like spikes. In fact the
genus name Ctenanthe is derived from the Greek ktenos meaning
'comb' and anthus menaing 'flower'. Its roots have rhizomes which aids
its slow spread. Never-Never Plant is native to Brazil, widely
cultivated as a house plant.
