Narrowleaf Starviolet is a hairless, perennial herb,
with stem stout erect, 1-1.5 ft., simple, rarely branched above, as
thick as s goose-quill below, and rooting at the lower nodes. Leaves
are stalked linear-lanceshaped, 10-15 by 0.6-1.8 cm, tapering to the
base, dark when dry. Stipules 1.2 cm, base ovate, not fused, leathery,
erect. Flowers are borne in many-flowered cymes, much divided with
slender erect flower-cluster-stalks and flower-stalks. Flowers are pale
lilac, much longer than the sepals. Petal are 4, oblong, spreading.
Sepals are short broad. capsules stalked turgid hemispheric, cells
5-8-seeded.
Narrowleaf Starviolet is found in East Himalaya and NE India, at
altitudes of 700-1700 m.
