Botanical name: Crotalaria montana Family: Fabaceae (Pea family)
Synonyms: Crotalaria formosana, Crotalaria linifolia var. angustifolia Mountain Rattlepod is a prostrate herb closely similar
to
Crotalaria albida. It can be
distinguished from Crotalaria albida by its prostrate (vs erect) habit,
leaves narrow elliptic to inverted-lanceshaped (vs linear
oblong-lanceshaped)/ Stipules are present (vs stipule absent); leaves
dimorphic (vs leaves monomorphic). Inflorescence is 5-10 flowered and
8-10 cm long. In Crotalaria albida the inflorescence 20-25 flowered.
The standard petal is nearly round, no hairs on back and tip (standard
obovate-oblong, hairs on back and tip in C. albida). Pods are black,
whereas pods brown in Crotalaria albida. Mountain Rattlepod is found in
Tropical Asia to Australia, including Eastern Himalaya.
