Long-Sepal Bulb-Leaf Orchid is a mini-miniature to
miniature sized, tree-dwelling orchid with shortly conical, broad
based, rugose at flowering pseudobulbs carrying 2 apical, oblong to
oblong-elliptic, pointed stalkless to shortly stalked leaves. Leaves
are absent at flowering time. The plant
flowers in the spring on a lateral, erect, slender, decurved, 8-13 cm
long, laxly 4-12 flowered raceme. Sepals and petals are yellowish
brown, with dense purple spots, usually turning tangerine; lip purplish
black above and pale tangerine below. Dorsal sepal is lanceshaped,
about 5 x 1.7 mm, 1-veined, margins irregularly fringed, tip long
tapering and hooked; lateral sepals narrowly oblong, 37-40 x 2-2.5 mm,
base adnate to column foot, twisted near base, their lower edges fused
to each other, tip pointed and curved. Petals are obliquely
ovate-triangular, about 3 x 1.5 mm, 1-veined, tip tapering and hooked.
Lip is reflexed, strap-shaped, about 3.5 mm, fleshy. Long-Sepal
Bulb-Leaf Orchid is found in the Himalayas to Indo-China, at altitudes
of 1400-1500 m. Flowering: March-April.
