Lanceleaf Whitlow Grass is a perennial herb, 10-30 cm tall, cespitose. Stems are erect, simple, woolly. Basal leaves are in a rosette, persistent; leaf-stalk up to 1.5 cm, often undifferentiated; leaf blade elliptic, oblong, or lanceshaped, 1-2 cm x 2-6 mm, base narrowed to wedge-shaped, margin entire or finely toothed, tip pointed. Stem leaves are 6-12, stalkless; leaf blade ovate, oblong, elliptic, or lanceshaped, 0.7-2.6 cm x 2-7 mm, velvet-hairy as basal leaves, base wedge-shaped to blunt, margin 2-5-toothed on each side, rarely entire, tip pointed. Flowers are borne in racemes 7-32-flowered, elongated in fruit. Fruiting flower-stalks are 2-4.5 mm, erect or rising up, often appressed to axis. Sepals are oblong or ovate, 1-2 x 0.5-0.8 mm, erect. Petals are white, spoon-shaped, 2.5-3.5 x 1-2 mm, tip somewhat notched or rounded; claw absent or up to 1 mm. Filaments are 1.5-2 mm. Fruits are lanceshaped to lanceshaped-linear, 7-11 x 1.5-2 mm, erect and often appressed to axis. Lanceleaf Whitlow Grass is found in NE Afghanistan to SW Siberia, China and Himalaya, at altitudes of 1100-4900 m. Flowering: June-August.
