Anemone elongata - Himalayan Snow Anemone

Himalayan Snow Anemone is a perennial herb characterized by profuse mass flowering of beautiful white flowers, giving the impression of snow covered hills. Petals (technically sepals) are 5, white, ovate, 1.2-2 x 0.6-1.2 cm, basal veins 3-5, base long narrowed, tip rounded. Stamens are 3-5 mm; filament linear, anther cylindric. Flower-stalks are long, 3-15 cm, base hairy. Flowers are borne atom flowering stems 40-80 cm, hairless or sparsely finely velvet-hairy; cyme compound, elongate, 7-15-flowered. Involucral bracts are 3-7, 3-parted, rhombic, 5-14 cm, sparsely finely velvet-hairy. Bracteoles 3-cleft or entire, 2-4 cm. Leaves are 5-15; leaf-stalk 15-30 cm, densely velvet-hairy; leaf blade 3-parted, rhombic-round, 8-15 x 6-12 cm, scarcely finely velvet-hairy or nearly hairless; segments 2- or 3-lobed, rhombic, margin pointedly toothed. Seedpod body is ovoid-ellipsoid, 6-9 x 4-7 mm, hairless; wings 1.2-1.3 mm wide. Himalayan Snow Anemone is found in sparse forests, meadows at altitudes of 1800-3700 m, in the Himalayas extending to Tibet and N Myanmar. Flowering: July-August.
