Himalayan Motherwort is an erect, leafy perennial herb
which grows up to 2-4 ft tall. It is closely similar to the European
Motherwort. However, it is distinguished by (1) sepal-cup teeth almost
equal, the lower ones slightly reflexed, (2) leaves not prominently lobed,
although they are weakly or deeply toothed or wavy, or slightly three-lobed,
at least in the inflorescence, (3) stems slightly velvet-hairy in the
angles, and (4) flowers being white. Flowers of the European Motherwort
are pinkish. Himalayan Motherwort was first described from the Kumaon
region of Uttarakhand. It is found in Afghanistan, West Himalaya, Nepal,
Pakistan, at altitudes of about 2500 m.
