Hainan China Doll is a tree 6-13 m tall, becoming
hairless, mostly cultivated as a garden shrub. Leaves are 2- or
3-pinnately compound; leaflets oblong-ovate or ovate, 4-10 X 2.5-4.5
cm, papery, hairless, base broadly wedge-shaped, tip tapering; lateral
veins 5 or 6 on each side of midrib. Large flowers are borne in
racemes, 1-4 cm, at branch-ends, few flowered. Flowers are greenish
white or golden yellow, bell-shaped, 3.5-5 x about 1.5 cm, velvet-hairy
above; tube about 5 mm in diameter at base, Petals are
kidney-shaped-triangular, about 1 cm in diameter. Sepal-cup is pale
red, tubular, irregular, about 1.8 cm, 3-5-lobed. Capsule are about 40
cm x 5 mm; septum compressed rounded. Hainan China Doll is found in
Hainan, S. China to Indo-China.
