Green Shrimp Plant is a woody undershrub, which is often confused with Blue Fox Tail. Leaves are opposite, 3-4 x 2-2.5 cm, stalkless, fleshy, ovate, pointed, base flat, finely velvet-hairy. Flowers are borne in dense at branch-end spikes; bracts shortly bristle-tipped, broadly ovate, minutely toothed, shortly tapering, 2 x 1.5 cm. Sepal-cup is 5-partite, fused below; sepals linear. Flower tube is very long and slender, bluish-green; limb 2-lipped, the upper lip narrow, shortly 2-fid, the lower 3-lobed with broad pendent petals. Stamens are 2, attached near the top of the tube; anthers 2 celled, parallel. Fruit is an ovoid compressed capsule narrowed into a solid stalk; seeds on curved retinacula. Green Shrimp Plant is found in Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, India, Kenya, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Yemen. In India it is found wild in a restricted area around Coimbatore.
