Flat-Stem Eria is a lean and weedy orchid with a
fleshy flattened stem, 15-20 cm long, carrying 1 to 2, oblong leaves.
The plant blooms in the late spring and early summer on a
spherical-head-like, densely many flowered, short inflorescence 1.8 cm,
with fibrous-membraneous, lanceshaped, somewhat pointed, brown floral
bracts. Leaves are 10-17 by 1.6-1.8 cm, base contracted. Flowers are 6
mm in diameter. Ovary is blunt-angled not exceeding the pointed linear
bracts, sepals tapering 3-nerved, petals linear-oblong 3-nerved,
epichile kidney-shaped. Flat-Stem Eria is native to East Himalaya to
China and Indo-China.
