Equal-Glume Smilograss is a loosely clustered
perennial grass, with stems 85-130 cm high, stout. Leaf-blades flat, up
to 30 cm long, 5-7 mm wide, scaberulous on the upper surface, rough
beneath. Panicle lax, 15-30 cm long, the branches spreading or rising
up, the longest about half the length of the panicle. Spikelets
lanceshaped, 6.5-9 mm long; lemma lanceshaped, 5-6.5 mm long, pointed
at the tip, covered (except at the tip) with dense hairs about 0.3 mm
long; awn 8-11 mm long, long-protruding from the glumes, at
branch-ends, deciduous or subpersistent; anthers 3.5-4 mm long, their
tips bearded. Equal-Glume Smilograss is found in Turkmenistan to
Himalaya and China, in juniper tracts and coniferous forests, at
altitudes of 1300-3300 m. Flowering: July-August.
