Edamalayar Bowl-Flower is an erect perennial sub-shrub, 50-120 cm tall, with aromatic woody rootstock. It is named for a small region Adichlthotty in Kerala. Flowers are pale yellow, about 1 cm across, stalkless. Tepals are 3, rarely 4, 6-8 x 6-8 mm, fleshy, broadly ovate, pointed or apiculate, hairy outside and inside. Stamens are 9-12, in groups of 3+3+3, 4+3+3, 4+4+3 or 4+4+4. Flowers are borne in leaf-axils, in up to 7-flowered clusters carried on flower-cluster-stalk 0.5-1.5 cm long. Bracts 1.8–2.2 × 11.3 mm, ovate to elliptic-lanceshaped, persistent. Flower buds are 7-9 mm across, depressed-spherical. Leaves are alternate, bifarious; leaf-stalk 3-5 mm long, hairless or sparsely velvet-hairy. Blades are 8-21 x 5-12 cm, obovate to broadly elliptic-oblong, non-equilateral, base rounded or slightly oblique, margins entire and curled, tip tapering into a tail or rarely pointed; somewhat leathery, hairless to sparsely velvet-hairy and glossy above, velvet-hairy beneath. Veins are prominent, strongly three-nerved from base, with 3-5 pairs of lateral nerves. Capsules are 4-10 x 0.3-0.4 cm, linear, green, hairless and drooping. Edamalayar Bowl-Flower is found in Southern Western Ghats. Flowering: February-May.
