Decorated Iris is a beautiful Iris which appears to be quite variable in the decoration of the flowers and also plant height. Flowers are violet or pale blue, 2.5-6 cm in diameter. Flower-tube is 2.5-3 cm; sepals spreading, obovate, 2.5-4 x 0.8-1.8 cm, streaked with purple lines and dots; crest central, yellow, low, wavy; petals erect, narrowly elliptic, 2.5-4 x 0.5-1.2 cm. Stamens are 1.5-2.5 cm; anthers yellowish white. Style branches are 2-3.5 cm, tips large toothed. Plants are densely clustered, with small growing point. Leaves are linear, 10-60 cm x 2-8 mm, veins 2 or 3, base surrounded by brown fibers. Flowering stems sometimes shortly 1-branched, 10-25 cm x 2-3 mm; spathes 3, green, lanceshaped, 4.5-9.5 cm, 2-flowered. Capsule is ellipsoid to ovoid, 2-3.5 x about 1 cm, tip shortly pointed. Decorated Iris is found in Pakistan to the Himalayas to S. Central China, at altitudes of 1800-4000. Flowering: June.
