Broadleaf Reed-Orchid is an erect orchid dwelling on
trees, with broad oblong leaves. The genus name comes from the Greek
schoinos, meaning rush or reed, referring to the long, broad
flat leaves. The species name honors the plant colelctor A.H. Smee.
Leaves are 5-7.5 x 1.5-2.5 cm, oblong, tip unequally bilobed,
channelled above. Flowers are borne in simple or branched racmes up to
10 cm long. Bracts are about 2 mm, ovate-lanceshaped, tapering. Sepal
and petals about about 3 x 2 mm, ovate-oblong, blunt, lip obscurely
3-lobed, arched, base spurred, column short, pollinia 2. Broadleaf
Reed-Orchid is endemic to the evergreen forests of Southern Western
Ghats, at elevations of 900-1200 m. Flowering: May-August.
