Brazilian Star Calathea is an evergreen tropical
perennial herb with a clump forming habit. Its mid green leaves have a
light green midrib, are ovate with entire margins, up to 40 cm long and
15 cm wide. Its white to pale pink flowers are up to 7 cm across and
appear in a cluster at branch-ends on erect stems. The cluster
resembles a single, large, star-shaped flower. It is composed of white
to pinkish, lance-shaped bracts that look like petals and inprominent,
small, white flowers. The flowers are fairly insignificant and do not
have any fragrance. Brazilian Star Calathea is native to Peru,
northern Brazil, Colombia, and Ecuador, cultivated worldwide.
