Black Raspberry is a subshrub, tender parts glandular,
prickles recurved. Leaves are odd-pinnate, up to 12-16 x 8-10 cm,
papery; margin sawtoothed; leaf-stalk up to 5-7 cm; stipules adnate to
leaf-stalk, up to 6 mm, persistent. End leaflet i ovate, pointed, up to
8 x 6 cm, often somewhat lobulate; laterals ovate-lanceshaped, 7 x 3.5
cm. Flowers are borne in leaf-axils, in few-flowered clusters, carried
on flower-cluster-stalk 2 cm long. Flowers are 1 cm wide, petals 5,
red, longer than sepals. Stamens numerous. Ovary hairless; ovule 1.
flower-stalk up to1 cm; bracts subulate, 6 mm. Sepal-tube is shallowly
cup-shaped, with glandular hairs; sepals 5, ovate-tapering. Fruits are
spherical, 1 cm wide, purple. Black Raspberry is found in West Himalaya
and South India.
